Allows for better control of a fighting fish. A diver can manually pull the release assembly out for instant relief of tension so a struggling fish will not fight free. A fast or powerful fish may release it automatically allowing the diver to swim freely to the surface with gun in hand and may secure the gun or load a second shaft for second or backup shots. This saves the spear gun from being damaged on the reef or lost in the blue.
